Johnnie Harper



Johnnie, the other non-Norwegian in Ophelia, is from Scotland, and started playing banjo and guitar when he was 9. He has toured in Europe, U.S.A. Australia, Canada and Japan, and has worked with many internationally acclaimed musicians, including Wild Bill Davison, Bud Freeman, Earl Hines, Benny Waters, Ruby Braff, Roy Williams, Louis Nelson, Chris Barber, Sandy Brown, Bent Persson, and Craig Ventresco.

In the Late 70s he was a member of the French quartet Orphéon Celesta, and subsequently worked with Sammy Rimmington’s band for four years. Since settling in Norway, he has freelanced, and played with Magnolia Jazz Band, Jazzade (a quartet who played bebop), Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Norwegian State Opera.

As well as Ophelia he currently plays with Røshnes Jazz Band
